  4. The book reviews the history of the typewriter. There are many interesting people and stories.
  5. We has an old UNDERWOOD typewriter at our house and I played with typing on it. Later, in high school, I took a first period typing class. My dad made me take the class because as he said, "if you get drafted, typing will keep you in the office, and off of the battlefield."
  6. Since the class was first period, I ended up missing a few classes, because in high school, I overslept a lot. I had a job at Zayre, from 2 - 10 PM almost every day after school. I asked my boss at Zayre how he could schedule me at 2:00, when school got out at 2:30. He said, "Just get here as fast as you can after school."
  7. Later, when computers came out, I had a weak foundation in typing, that helped me along. To this day, I'm a pretty fast two finger typist.

  9. My mom worked in offices during the 'Don Draper' period. She started off using manual typewriters and got to be pretty fast with them. Then one time she had to apply for a job and they had an 'new' electric typewriter. She wasn't used to it, and made a lot of blank lines... I think she got the job and became proficient with an elctric typewriter. Now she's quick with an iMac keyboard. Times have changed!

  11. I enjoyed reading this book and gave it to my mom as a gift. She read it at one sitting. She enjoyed reading about a few movies and tv shows that she has seen where they featured typewriters, even “Mad Men and Don Draper!”
