Superteam Digital First covers Superstorm Sandy

Superstorm Sandy swept through dozens of communities covered by Digital First Media newsrooms.

  1. Our Thunderdome newsroom is in lower Manhattan's evacuation zone, but journalists kept covering the storm from various homes, some of which lost power. More than two dozen DFM newsrooms in at least eight states covered the local impact in their communities.

  2. Buffy Andrews of the York Daily Record used Geofeedia to gather images from social media in several locations in Sandy's path.
  3. At HurricaneSandyNews.com, the Thunderdome news team provided national content for DFM newsrooms across the country.
  4. Much of the worst damage happened during the evening and night, making photography difficult.
  5. Tree on a house in 500 block of S. Walnut St. in West Chester. No injuries, power remains on this side of town. #Sandy yfrog.com/od32xmbj

  8. Jennifer Huberdeau of the North Adams Transcript used Storify to collect social media content about the storm.
  9. Connecticut, which was pounded by Hurricane Irene last year, braced for Sandy's punch:
  10. Number of statewide power outages is at about 625,000. One of highest totals ever, but lower than Irene and the October Nor'Easter. #ctsandy
  11. Gov. Malloy says people no longer stranded in homes due to Connecticut shoreline flooding. nhregister.com/articles/2012/…
  12. With New Jersey right in Sandy's path, the Trentonian covered extensive damage.
