Screen Machine: 2011 year in review
With Screen Machine's final tour of 2011 now finished, we look back on a year in the life of Scotland's only mobile cinema.
- As Scotland's only mobile cinema, Screen Machine travelled by land and ferry around some of the most remote parts of the country in 2011, welcoming around 25,000 film fans through her doors.
While Screen Machine was on the road, the media was busy tracking her progress. We've rounded-up some of the stories and comments in this post to offer a snapshot of a busy year that included parrots, Whisky Galore and the BBC on Barra. Achiltibuie welcomes The Eagle
It was a relatively quiet start to the year, until in March a request came in from the producers of Hollywood historical epic, The Eagle, for a special screening in Achiltibuie. Scenes had been shot in the area in 2010 with many of the locals appearing as extras, as reported by the BBC.

- It was also in June that the above message appeared on Screen Machine's Facebook page, alerting us to the fact that someone had decided to take a parrot to a screening of animated comedy, Rio.
After some detective work we discovered the parrot was an African Grey called Youad... - The story of Youad turned out to be a popular one on the STV website and Twitter, where a hashtag, #aparrotinacinema, was created and various parrot-related film titles suggested by followers. We now hope other cinemas have a parrot policy ready just in case.

While the summer was a typically busy one for Screen Machine, with sold out screenings of Harry Potter around the country, we headed to Brodick on Arran in July to film a couple of short videos of the cinema in action.Whisky Galore returns to Barra
- The classic Ealing comedy, Whisky Galore, was filmed on the island of Barra in 1948 and in October we decided to take it back in the shape of a brand new digital print. Both the BBC and STV websites covered the screening (below), while Reporting Scotland (above) headed out to film some of the event for TV viewers.

November 2011 found Screen Machine stopping off in Inverness for two days as part of the 2011 Inverness Film Festival, screening a handful of new films in the car park of the city's Eden Court.
