With Bartz Gone, Can Yahoo Turn Themselves Around?

The abrupt dismissal of CEO Carol Bartz led many to wonder if Yahoo has any hope of survival. Disclosure, I worked at Yahoo from 2007-2010 as the Community Manager for the Yahoo Developer Network.

  1. Some of you thought that Yahoo's time was long past, and some thought a sale was their best bet.  Many of the comments in this vein expressed almost uniform disdain for Yahoo.  If the purple media/tech company is going to turn around, the comments I've seen indicate a severe PR problem.

Investor Perspective: Sorely disappointed when they appointed Bartz as CEO. Yahoo needs to organize & focus on assets. @RWW

  5. But there are many who are still pulling for Yahoo.

Well, I hope so, I really do. I have friends who work for Yahoo, and I think they're not dead. But firing a CEO out of nowhere over the phone is no way to start the transition to prosperity. It's wrong, and Carol didn't deserve it.

I agree. I was a Yahoo from 2007-2010 and I think the way she was fired is gross, personally. But it doesn't surprise me in the slightest. The people and talent at Yahoo are great, but the leadership has always been on a strategy merry-go-round.

  8. Yahoo still has some great products and they win in a few key categories, but it might just take a special CEO to pull them out of their current woes.  If you could choose anyone to lead Yahoo, who would it be?
