Do you think you need 3G/4G on your tablet?

  1. Kelly Ruck- Demeri
I use a pay as you go modem, that way if I don't use data that's paid for I don't loose it. I can also link more than one device to it.

Meh - I've been happily tethering via the mobile for the last 6 months and it's working well for me - only ONE mobile data plan to worry about and most places I end up at I've got arrangements to use local wifi there. Am I an unusual use case?

Disagree. Commuters need 3G! and also tethering is unreliable RT @RWW: Don't Buy 3G/4G on Your Tablet: Wifi is Fine http://rww.to/u9SnNt

  8. Anirudh Aithal  -  Completely agree. While we are on the subject, 7" tablets are big enough. It doesn't make sense to buy a 10" one.

  9. Anthony De Rosa  -  I had a WiFi only tablet and it WAS NOT enough. I am much happier now that I have a 3G iPad. I could only use my old iPad in few limited places and was frustrated when I wanted to access the net or refresh my Instapaper.

  10. João Serrano  -  Sure, agree with the wifi
  11. Karttikeya Bihani  -  Yes, WiFi is enough. You have your phone if you want 3G or 4G.

  12. Jesse Spangenberger  -  Choosing between WiFi or 3G/4G is a matter of where you live and what you use it for (including the extra data plan required for 3G/4G). I would be on the fence on this one primarily because where I live I have WiFi access and the normal places I go I have it (agree'ing with +Karttikeya Bihani ).

Also, I have a Android phone (DINC) and I can do most of my e-mail checking and reaidng from there if I don't have WiFi access. Still, I have been looking towards tablets (10" -- primarily ASUS Transformer Prime) for school books instead of getting physical books which not only cost more then renting them (in some cases used books are not that bad -- however, I don't like to use a version behind in my classes if I end up getting the previous version of the book).

  13. Mark Bienvenu  -  WiFi is enough. I have 3G on my phone and I can always head to the nearest coffee shop or fast food place if I need wifi on the road.

  14. Jon Snidal  -  As navigator, used tablet on road trip recently, so 3G was a must! Mind you, that's the only scenario where it was needed in two years ...

  15. Derek Tung  -  For heavy tablet user, yes they need 3G/4G. For avg user, sharing phone data is budget and good enough

  16. João Serrano  -  Exactly, I can always share the 3g/4g from my mobile with a the tablet. Personally I draw the line at getting a third internet contract. Specially when on the mobile i use wifi connection in about 60% of the time, oh and it doesn't justify the difference on the price on a 3g/4g tablet.

  17. Chris Silvetti  -  Here Here! +João Serrano Absolutely...
  18. Histerius  -  WiFi + 10.1 = great combination.
