Given that Christina and I are a long way away from our families in the Midwest we decided to forgo traditional thanksgiving for something more adventurous....wine tasting in Temecula.

For non-So Cal natives, Temecula is the closest winery to San Diego, not Nappa caliber, but a quick trip up the freeway.

Our Thanksgiving plan were driven in part by the need to spend a "Living Social" deal we had for a stay at the Temecula Creek Inn and wine tastings. Our deal expired at the end of the month, and was restricted allow for only Mon-Thur use, so with December quickly approaching we figured it was time for a holiday adventure!.

When I booked our trip we were told that the wineries were open on Thanksgiving. When we called back to get more details on Tuesday we learned that that information was incorrect. Christina's dad Carl had also to let us know that he was traveling with a friend to LA to look at a classic Vet and might be in Temecula on Thanksgiving. Given that we didn't have any other plans and the chance to see family we decided to go ahead.

Luxury inn and 27-hole golf course. Pool, spa and tennis also on site. Dining at the Temet Grill, meeting and banquet facilities.

We decided to head up at about 3pm, there was little to no traffic and we were at the hotel in about an hour.

When we arrived at the hotel I told Christina that my shoe felt a little weird, upon taking three more steps towards registration the right foot of my Clarks (about 4 years old) separated from the sole. Quickly glancing down I noticed that my left shoe was also split at the seam. So...there I stand, at the entrance to a "resort" shoeless...on Thanksgiving...in Temecula.

Our room at the inn was "ok", nothing special room wise but great view of the golf course....if your into that kind of thing.

Has any of you every tried to find someplace open on Thanksgiving to buy shoes? We were moments away from doubling back to see what, if anything, the CVS pharmacy would have when like a somewhat tarnished star in the distance we saw a Walmart Superstore.

We had made contact with Christina's Dad but he wasn't sure what his dinner plans were going to be given that his travel companion had just eaten a large pizza. We invited him to join us at the inn for the Thanksgiving buffet, which apparently is highly rated. He wasn't sure he was ready to eat yet so we decided to meet up with him post-dinner.

We had decided to go "casual" for dinner and Christina was concerned we might not be dressy enough and suggested we poke in to check out the decor. It was a great idea, because what we saw was apparently the remnants of an AARP convention slowly shuffling by a buffet setup in an empty dining hall. With the crowd and a $50 per person price tag we decided this wasn't our scene and gave Carl back a call.

Carl and his friend Bill had decided to go the Casino so we headed that way to meet up with them and grab dinner.
