This is a 'storify' of our event collated from tweets during the conference. Over 100 colleagues attended and took the opportunity to listen to keynotes, attend workshops and presentations plus engage in the poster presentations on display in Cantor Atrium.
The Twitter hashtag used for the conference was #ACES2012. 'ACES' is the acronym we use for the Faculty of Arts, Computing, Engineering and Sciences. We were delighted to see that our new Pro Vice Chancellor (PVC), Professor Roger Eccleston was one of a growing group of Educators within ACES that are tweeting and sharing information via Twitter.

Introduction

SEDA Summer School and JISC

The JISC Developing Digital Literacies Programme identified the SEDA Summer School as an opportunity to bring together staff within funded projects and staff from other institutions to discuss, share, and further extend their approaches to academic development for digital literacies within their institutions.

JISC funded twelve scholarships providing 50% of the Summer School fee for participants. Scholarship holders were selected on the basis of descriptions of the projects they planned to work on during the Summer School.

Following the Summer School, each scholarship holder will produce a short blog post on their reflections and actions from attending the event. These will be posted on participants’ project or personal blog or the JISC e-Learning blog site, and in any event linked from the JISC e-Learning blog site.

SEDA is very grateful to JISC for this support.

Professional development can take many forms and can be defined as formal and informal learning. Formal learning may be associated with accredited courses offered by colleges and universities. It may be work based learning for skills directly linked with your current role. In addition to these opportunities there are many opportunities to learn and pursue your own professional development. By developing your own personal learning network (PLN) it is possible to enrichen this experience.

This aim of this Storify is to provide an overview of the social media tools that can be used to create a PLN. The technology is only part of it however and it is with who you share and learn from that is important. The tools just make it easier to reach out to others who share your interests.

Every PLN is personal so this is just one view from my perspective.
