Recent Arrival From North America, The Dominion Of Canada Steam Train Is Painted Ahead Of 75th Anniversary Of The Mallard

SHILDON, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 19: The locomotive Dominion of Canada undergoes restoration work on February 19, 2013 in Shildon, England. The Doncaster built engine which has come to the UK from Montreal, Canada is receiving a 'Mallard-style' makeover at the National Railway Museum at Shildon in time for the 75th anniversary celebrations of Mallard breaking the world steam speed record.

Re-paint for train anniversary event

A Doncaster-built locomotive is being repainted in preparation for the 75th anniversary of a steam train landmark. The Dominion of Canada is being decked out in garter blue colours at the National Railway Museum in Shildon, County Durham.

The final stage of Dwight's cosmetic restoration is underway before it is moved into the Great Hall next month. ·

We've had a film crew at the museum covering the journey of the two repatriated A4 locos on their way to Mallard 75 ·

We have uncovered a list of names punched in one of the slidebars of Dwight D. Eisenhower. They probably belong to the people who repainted it the 1980's in the US. Or they could be the team who put the motion back together when the engine went Stateside in the late 60s. Does anyone else have any suggestions? ·

You can see the project being carried out at our sister museum in Shildon. ·

Heritage painting are back with us to work on another A4. Union of South Africa is receiving a partial barrel repaint ahead of Mallard 75 celebrations. ·

Peter and the team have been removing the aluminium paint and restoring the motion on Dwight before it is displayed in Great Hall. ·
