1) Jonathan Becher, SAP's Chief Marketing Officer, imagines a future where community is at the heart of content marketing, using SAP Community Network as his example.


BtoB, the magazine for marketing strategies, interviewed Jonathan on his thoughts and strategies as the new CMO at SAP. 

" Some of the most compelling content about what we do comes from the SAP Community Network. That's our platform that allows our customers and partners to blog and comment. There are something like 2.8 million members on that site now, and they go in and have discussions, often without us being involved whatsoever, about the value, the attributes of a product, how to install it, how it works, how to change it for a particular industry that we may not be very prevalent in.
Is that content marketing? Yes. Is that us doing all the heavy lifting? No, we're just moderating a bunch of that. Our standard website is SAP.com. Everything on SAP.com is published by us. I can imagine a future where maybe we publish less than 50% of the content. The rest of the content [would come] from the greater community."

Jonathan Becher was formally named SAP's CMO in August after serving in the role on an interim basis for four months. He succeeded Martin Homlish, who left to become CMO of Hewlett-Packard Co. in April. Becher had been exec VP-marketing for SAP since the business software giant acquired Pilot Software, where he had been president and CEO-CMO, in 2007.

 2) SAP Community Network featured in SocialMedia.org's "The Big List Blog"


In his BlogWell San Francisco presentation ( back in June 2011), SAP's Senior Vice President, Mark Yolton, discusses how eight years of experience has matured their social media program. During the Q&A, one of the attendees commented, "This is best presentation I've seen today." (20:00 in 31 minute video).    Last week, SocialMedia.org featured this case study along with eleven others on  it's "Big List Blog".

3) Confessions of Mixed Emotions About the Coming NEW SCN


SAP Mentor Gretchen Lindquist blogged about her mixed
emotions re: the new SCN to come, and asked "So what do you think? Excited about the coming new SCN? Your comments and observations are welcome." Her blog generated  lots of comments and honest dialogue -- which is what our community thrives on.

4)The shape of things to come...members expressed excitement about beginning to contribute and reaching the next level of recognition this past week. These sentiments will multiply exponentially when the NEW SCN is launched.

5) SAP Inside Track Vancouver earns kudos for delivering an engaging and passionate community-inspired event.


Over 90 people attended, 65% non-SAP, to 18 sessions throughout the day. This community inspired event was led by local experts in the area of Business Analytics. Many sessions were standing room only!  Community Evangelist Jason Cao was the driver of this second annual event.

It is hard to characterize a culture with few words, but I will try. Cultures can be described either in terms of lore and traditions, or in terms of their core values. The New Thinking is clearly a culture that draws its power from core values. Here we go: Innovation. Invention. Open Thinking. Community. Learning. Quest. Courage. And, perhaps most importantly, Passion.
