The queer equality movement has blossomed to find acceptance in today's society and especially on college campuses. One growing organization, the NOH8 Campaign, has taken social media, the Internet, and the news by storm.

The NoH8 Campaign, an organization that promotes marriage and gender equality, launched with a big presence on Twitter. The NoH8 Campaign also raises awareness of LGBT issues in the hopes of educating their followers and encouraging support. Many influential people have also volunteered to participate in anti-bullying PSAs the organization has created as well.

On Monday, season 16's bachelor winemaker Ben Flajnik shocked viewers by asking model/villain Courtney Robertson to marry him at the finale and rejecting charming city-country girl Lindzi Cox.

Season 16 of ABC's "The Bachelor" featured familiar, floppy-haired Ben, who proposed to season 7's bachelorette Ashley Hebert quicker than she could tell him she picked her other suitor. This time around, though, he was in the hot seat: 25 women all vying for his pieced-together heart.

By the time Ben had narrowed down the ladies to two at Monday's finale, America had grown to love sweet, smiley Lindzi and loved to hate mousy Courtney, the outcast in the house. Nevertheless, fans were still anxious to tune to the finale and the "after the rose" episode (which both roped in a record 9 million plus viewers).
While it seems fans (and celebrities alike) were rooting for Lindzi out of sheer disgust for Courtney and her dumb catchphrases (#winning), I had a feeling the finale wouldn't go exactly as the rest of America planned. I figured that this season would be another Jake and Vienna repeat, with Ben picking Courtney much to the disappointment of all of us viewers.

Two long, dragged out hours later filled with tears, scrapbooks and unnecessary relationship metaphors, Ben gets down on one knee for Courtney, who is scarily donned in a white shawl and long black dress much like Cruella DeVille. Reactions to his proposal (and her subsequent acceptance!) were mixed.

After President Barack Obama urged every state to raise the high school dropout age from 16 to 18 in his January State of the Union Address, more school districts around the nation have considered adopting the policy, including New Jersey.

While Mahwah High School (mascot below), in Bergen County, doesn't have a high dropout rate, according to Director of Guidance Dominick Gliatta, raising the age for compulsory education would still strain the district's resources and funds.

I found out about Whitney Houston's death when one of my writers called me, asking if he could write the article that would break the news in our campus newspaper. Honestly, I thought he was just believing a rumor, some sick joke that someone had started on Twitter. I decided to look into it myself to see if I could figure out the hoax. Google News, however, proved the "rumor" to be true.

Although I had never really followed her or her music, Houston was undoubtedly an icon, and everyone knew her hit singles. I found her voice to be incredible... I still remember to this day watching her perform at one of the Grammy Awards way back when. She had such a powerful presence on stage, and that never wavered, despite whatever trouble she was facing in her personal life at the time. "I Will Always Love You" and "I Have Nothing" were, and still are, two of my personal favorites.

Between her rocky marriage to Bobby Brown, her drug addiction, and her simply erratic behavior, Houston was certainly a target for comedians (Kathy Griffin - guilty), gossip magazines, and the paparazzi. But while she had clearly been trying to stay under the radar recently, she just filmed Sparkle with Jordin Sparks, a movie set to arrive in theaters in August, according to People Magazine. 

What struck me as amazing was Houston's ability to influence and inspire so many artists of today. Simply surfing Twitter and Facebook after the news of her death was confirmed and broken on the Internet, I was astounded by the outpouring of love and support from those who's live she had touched, fellow celebrities and fans alike.

As the night progresses I'm sure more details will leak of her death. Wikipedia has already updated her entry online. It will be sad to see how the world reacts to her passing, but I have a feeling her fans and admirers around the globe will join together to commemorate her and mourn our loss.
