According to reports from Radio Romania, 74 people nationwide have been killed as a result of the winter weather. Over one hundred towns are isolated due to the heavy snow and Some 13,000 homes have no electricity. Some 50 major highways across the country are  closed including the A2 a major artery between the capital Bucharest and Fetesti

More than 330 trains were canceled. In total, nearly 7200 schools around the capital and the surrounding countryside have been closed for days. In the Transylvanian Alps, the situation is far worse with some isolated communities cut off for from the outside world for more than three weeks. In the hamlet of Movilita, buildings are collapsing due to the weight of snow on roofs and walls. Snowfall amounts of seven meters (nearly 23 feet) has been reported in Movilita. Fire fighters and emergency crews are trying to get to cut off communities, but its a slow go. Travel restrictions have also been imposed between Hungry and Romania as a result of the harsh winter weather.
