As the final special author visit for the Nationa Year of Reading, Anita Heiss, fabulous author of books including "Paris Dreaming", "Who am I: The Diary of Mary Talance" and "Avoiding Mr Right", visited our young writers group and then spoke to the public about her work.

Anita Heiss - author of stories, poems and memoir will be with us tomorrow. If you're a young writer (high school age), join her at 5pm to 6pm for a writing workshop (bring a pen and paper, or other writing materials). <br> If you're not a young writer, Anita will be speaking about her work - including her recent memoir "Am I Black Enough For You?" at 7pm at the library.

We kicked off the evening with the by now well known quote from V.S. Naipaul from an interview presented at the Royal Geographic Society in London (article linked below): He said: "I read a piece of writing and within a paragraph or two I know whether it is by a woman or not. I think [it is] unequal to me."  He said this was because of women's "sentimentality, the narrow view of the world". "And inevitably for a woman, she is not a complete master of a house, so that comes over in her writing too," he said.  He added: "My publisher, who was so good as a taster and editor, when she became a writer, lo and behold, it was all this feminine tosh."

On Tuesday 13 December, the branch librarians of Upper Murray Regional Library embarked upon a tour of the eastern branches: Holbrook, Tumbarumba, Corryong and Tallangatta

In July, our Branch Librarians meeting visited the 'western' branches: Beechworth, Chiltern, Rutherglen, Corowa and Mulwala.  At the time I lamented my lack of a smart phone to tweet as I went.  This time around, I *had* a smart phone.

(Apparently) each time we do a Bus Trip around the region, we get a quiz.  Last time was books turned into movies - this time it was pictures of the region's various libraries.

Tumbarumba Library - so very pretty.  Site of our lunch stop.

The drive from Tumbarumba to Corryong is stunningly beautiful.
Corryong Library is known as the Elyne Mitchell Library after the author of the Silver Brumby books - a very famous writer of the area.
