Social media has had a dramatic impact on how we watch television, with Twitter leading the way for a social TV revolution. Social television - the term used to describe the symbiotic relationship between social media and TV - is producing big changes in how TV programs are created, delivered and consumed. Shows like American Idol and Pretty Little Liars, and special televised events like the Golden Globes and X Games, have embraced social media as a way to interact more intimately with their audiences, bringing content from the TV screen to the second screen (and in some cases from the second screen to the TV screen).

We watch more live TV now than we did five years ago. Advertisers use branded hashtags to market to viewers. Fictional characters have their own Twitter accounts. Actors tweet from behind the scenes as they're filming new episodes. This panel will explore these changes and more in an attempt to understand the impact social media has had on TV (and vice versa).

Folk tittar på och talar om TV live, och då är Twitter den perfekta kanalen

"Pretty little liars" är den populäraste TV-serien att twittra om, fansen producerar ungefär 19000 tweets i minuten
Varför gör man det då?
TV-serien har en del Twitter-triggers. Det händer mycket saker hela tiden, folk dör, blir kära och bråkar om vartannat - precis som i high school
Andra populära TV-serier på Twitter är bland annat The Walking dead och shower som X-Factor (cirka 14 million tweets)

Annat på TV som också är intressant och populärt på Twitter är events som sport och musikevents.
UEFA Champions league genererar under en match ungefär 110000 tweets i minuten.
Stora engagerande events skapar också ett stort engagemang som till exempel Grammys.

Hur kommer då den växande floran av play-kanaler och icke-tablåstyrd TV att påverka hur vi använder Twitter? Som exempelvis Netflix där hela säsonger ligger tillgängliga.

Case: House of cards är en helt egen välgjord produktion från Netflix, (kommer även hela nya säsonger från arrested development i maj på Netflix,

Ongoing serier har klara höjdpunkter när avsnittet sänds, med säsongsfinaler som höga toppar i flödet

För events är det en enorm topp när evenemanget är, sedan ganska låga siffror.
För att få ett bra flöde på Twitter behöver du göra följande:
1. building interest - skapa intresse
2. discovery -få målgruppen att upptäcka kanalen
3. fan engagemang - skapa engagemang hos fansen
4. realtime interception - interagera under evenemanget

1 Interest
Om ingen twittrar om programmet ses det inte, förhandstips på rating och räckvidd.

Serien Raising hope, släppte förhandsinfo på Twitter och skapade därmed ett större intresse

Golden globe - släppte enormt mycket extramaterial, VIP-treatment to followers inför evenemanget, extra content om evenemanget på Twitter för att driva upp intresset

2. Discovery
Hur hittar man nya fans?
House of cards, hitta andra followers som följer och twittrar om det
Tre av tio ser på programmet enbart på grund av tips på Twitter
Twitter är som en kaffaautomat, en snackis i sig och det är här det föds snackisar.

Utnyttja existerande fanbase från andra populära serier eller skådisar, jämför med spinoff.

Underskatta inte advertising, promoted tweets ser ut att fungera bra men behöver undersökas närmare för att verkligen se effekten.

3. Fan engagemant
How do you engage fans?
TV-serien The Archers karaktärer har egna konton som interagerar med varandra och som bygger ut handlingen på Twitter, skådisarna själva twittrar

How I met your mothers, Barney Stinson finns på twitter

Vi som följer personifierar oss med karaktärerna, man tycker att vi känner karaktärerna, det skapar en stark relatibn och är inte minst kul.

På events som till exempel Golden Globes. Fråga fansen vad de vill se och producera det innehållet, vem vill ni att vi ska fota på röda mattan? Lägg ut det

Samt såklart Twittra med fans medan de ser på programmet

51 procent twittrar om och under programmet med andra för att connecta med andra som har samma intresse.

Hälften av annonserna under Superbowl hade speciella hashtags - dom är överallt

4. Realtime participarion
You will get spoiler men realtimetweets från ABC, strategin är att få folk att titta live.

För att hitta content - gör twitterundersökningar, vad tycker ni? Testades mycket under X-factor.

Grammys hade Ipads under showen och alla kändisarna kunde posta grejer från backstage direkt ut på Twitter. Tillfället gör twittraren.

Trending topics är mycket intressant för mätningar, intressant men inget för relationsbygget mer ett mätverktyg.

5. Feedback
Twitter är som en stor fokusgrupp, "som att ha miljoner producers som du ska jobba med", Simon Cowell

Twitter är lite annorlunda än sedvanliga publiken, yngre och mer negativ, men en bra plats att starta på.

#killcarlalready karaktären i Walking Dead fick egen hashtag, karaktären förändrades till senare i serien till det "bättre"

Hawaii5-O - Twitter fick bestämma slutet, västkusten och östkusten svarade olika och man fjorde två olika avsnitt

so what's next?
1. Hashtags - they ate great, fokusering, få alla till sama plats, men för spridda och vi behöver utveckla hashtag? Folk använder, men driver det konvertering

2. Channels, mer kanaler, mer tv-innehåll på andra kanaler än TV. Innehåll för TV skapas på flera olika sociala kanaler det kommer mer sånt som med the archer, karaktärerna finns på flera olik akanaler, Facebook med mera 79 procent besöker fb när de tittar på TV men mer händer där än vi vet.

3. Mer advertising på Twitter, Oreo under superbowl till exempel, ett par minuteryou can still dunk in the dark

Ett annat exempel på hashtag och kampanj är adidas #thereturn för en sportsman som håller på att jobba sig tillbaka från en skada.

Innehåll som användaren gillar sprids - så enkelt är det

"mediamaraton" - när vi sitter och bara matar på med serier pånetflix med mera där vi kan se hela säsonger på en gång, hur ska man då interaga med andra eftersom man tittar individuellt? - Jo på twitter förstås
