"Today, following this review, the most comprehensive listening exercise in Scouting's history the approximate 1,400 voting members of the Boy Scouts of America's National Council approved a resolution to remove the restriction denying membership to youth on the basis of sexual orientation alone. The resolution also reinforces that Scouting is a youth program, and any sexual conduct, whether heterosexual or homosexual, by youth of Scouting age is contrary to the virtues of Scouting. A change to the current membership policy for adult leaders was not under consideration; thus, the policy for adults remains in place. The BSA thanks all the national voting members who participated in this process and vote.

The Twitter account @HadfieldAtHome appeared shortly after the real McCoy landed in Kazakhstan last week.
And just as Hadfield was getting used to living back on terra firma...
...so was his parody double.
And then @HadfieldAtHome appeared in the flesh. The comedian behind the parody, New Yorker Sean Ireland, dressed in a Canadian Space Agency golf shirt and terrible fake moustache, recorded a Vine video saying he was "excited to answer some of your questions."

"Passinho," or "little step" is a dance that has been steadily gaining popularity in Brazil in the last five years or so - but in recent months it's exploded online, as well. 

It involves dexterous footwork and stylish movements of the upper body and arms, which are reminiscent of breakdancing and other urban dance styles.

But hybridization and remixing have always been a characteristic of Brazilian culture in general, and this dance isn't any different.

The Passinho dance style adapts elements of North American breakdancing and R&B with indigenous styles like Capoeria, Samba no Pé ("Foot Samba") and Forró.

The result is a sleek dance style that has quickly spread through the urban slums where it originated and, with the help of social media, is cracking into the mainstream, both in Brazil and abroad.

This increased social-media exposure has also helped move Brazilian funk music, which is a mixture of traditional Brazilian rhythms and American hip hop and Miami bass, away from the trafficking and gun culture with which it has always been associated. 

With the help of greater police presence in Rio's slums, the media attention has also started taking the "baile funk," or "funk dance parties," out of the hands of the drug dealers who typically sponsored them.

In place of the "bailes," Passinho is becoming the site of dance battles that pit local youths against each other in a competition of skill and braggadocio, not unlike the battle culture that grew around hip-hop in the late 1980s. 

But rather than serving as a generally unregulated site for gangs to distribute drugs and recruit new members, these "Batalhos" are being supported by community organizations and serving as a constructive outlet for youth who otherwise have few options.

Aeronaut Bertrand Piccard was the first man to fly a hot air balloon around the world in 1999. Along with fellow Swiss pilot Andre Borschberg, he decided to build a solar powered plane that could eventually fly around the world. It has taken ten years for Piccard's idea to come to fruition.

While most commercial planes weigh at least 600,000 pounds, the Solar Impulse weighs only 3,500 pounds, less than an SUV. The carbon fiber pieces that comprise the body are three times lighter than a piece of paper and flight control crew on the ground must grab onto the wings as the plane lands so it doesn't tip over.
