Nikon's D800 is a 36.3 megapixel FX format DSLR. It is similar to the D4 but lacks a lot of the professional options like ethernet connection. Frame rate is slower at 4 fps as compared to 11fps of the D4.

CNET's digital camera inspectors could not find a lot to complain about on the D800 other than the battery is a little underpowered. It's interesting that CNET chose to classify the D800 as a professional nonsports shooting camera. Perhaps the nonsports refers to the slow auto-focus.

As some are saying in the photographic industry about the Lytro Light Field Camera, "This is what new feels like." Ever so often technology takes a leap forward and some are saying the Lytro represents a hop rather than a leap for digital cameras.

This is not your typical digital camera. With it you no longer need to worry about what to focus on when you take a photo.

What's intriguing is the Lytro focus on everything in the field and then lets the user decide which part of the field he/she prefers to be in focus. Clearly this is a game changer. But, is it enough of a change to convince people to buy it?

Critics are lined up with opinions such as, "It's not ready for prime time." "Tiny camera tiny results." "Only good for Facebook photos."

It looks as though the Lytro does not solve one the main problems of photography, convenience. Cameras in smartphones are quickly replacing the standard point-and-shoot cameras, primarily because you don't have to carry an additional piece of gear. Your phone is always with you, so is your ability to take photographs. Asking people to lug around the Lytro may not prove to be successful.

Here's your chance to see what the gang over at dpreview think of the Lytro. It was not much of a surprise to find out they were less than enthused about this new photographic departure. With resolution and sensor too small for prime time the Lytro while being interesting is in its current state, not very useful.

Canon PowerShot G1 X Large Sensor Compact

At first glance one would think the G1 X appears to be similar to Canon's G-series line. However, after closer inspection the G1 X is quiet different from the other G series compacts. Owners of larger DSLRs just might be attracted to the G1X as a "carry about" camera because of sensor size.

Bulky and heavy was the conclusion of the Digitalversus reviewer and definitely not the camera they were expecting Canon to release. There were no complaints about the sensor which provided super nice results, they were not impressed with the optical viewfinder and sluggish zoom.

According to DPReview the G1 X is positioned to appeal to owners of DSLR systems but based on the price it probably will have a much wider appeal because of it's sensor size and image producing capabilities.
