I like what I see and the way I see it. I take thousands of pictures everyday with my eyes. When one of those marries to an idea I have, I make hundreds of pictures with my camera. Out of those, I usually find one or two I like. If they are good enough, I share, assuming others will like them as well.

As for my subject matter, it involves where I live: the geography, the place(s) I call home, the spaces we make, the spaces we leave when we leave.

I love the dialog that my pictures create with myself, the dialog they create with others. To say more by way of statement seems contrary to that. I guess I feel that in the process of making the picture, I’ve already shaped how someone sees it. To attempt to shape it anymore—well, that’s so dogmatic as to kill any chance of conversation.

My ongoing series, Outerlands, is an observation of the landscape and my relationship to living on the Island.

Contact:
www.elizabethcecil.com

Arts and Ideas

Arts & Ideas: Art as Time Travel

Arts & Ideas: Art as Time Travel

Storified by Arts and Ideas ·
