Couldn't answer one question - wriggled and wormed his way through. Immediate dismissal is what is required - you're not doing your job buddy and the Aust people FIRE YOU. Our Govt is the biggest bunch of soft cocks - whether it be whaling, live export, forests...and I haven't even got to the people yet. Sack the lot of you!!!

I mentioned last week that I'd been commissioned to write an article for Marie Claire. After Gillard's speech caused such fist-pumping from women (reflected in today's polls), they want to look at the question of what young women think about sexism and misogyny today. This is around the 25 - 35 year old mark, but I'd also be interested in perspectives from women both older and younger than this group. 

Do you feel like sexism and misogyny are still problems for young Australian women, or are these just outdated words that mean nothing to your lives? If you wouldn't mind providing some context for your answers, that would be great. When Gillard spoke of misogyny and sexism in the Parliament, did you cheer or cringe? Do you believe equality has been achieved and this is all just distraction, or do you think we still suffer from insidious expressions of sexism? 

Regardless of whether or not you feel tied to feminism or where you fall on the truth of Gillard's words, what if any are the issues that make you feel undermined or vulnerable? (EG for me, I feel frustrated at the lack of female commentators and the assumption that gender parity in discussions is achieved by having slightly less than 50% represented by women; frustrated at the lack of women's stories being valued in the media and pop culture; sick to shit of harassment on the streets and at home; rape apology; phrases like 'the handbag hit squad'. I could go on. On the other hand, I'm way less concerned about the number of women on corporate boards. That seems to me to be a very traditional battle that is about pursuing traditionally male expressions of power rather than looking at how women might try to do things differently.)

As an element of social governance it is only one piece of a much larger jigsaw puzzle.
