Trump's controversial Aberdeenshire course finally opened on Tuesday, after years of wrangling, dispute and protests. Here's a recap of the day.

It took six years from Trump buying the Menie estate in Aberdeen to opening the course. Planning was initially refused by Aberdeenshire council due to the coast being designated a site of special scientific interest, however that decision was overruled by the Scottish government in 2008. Even when Trump finally had permission to build the course he was dogged by local protesters. However the business tycoon was all smiles as he toasted the course before teeing off this morning.

Colin Montgomerie was among those in attendance as Trump held a news conference, saying the course was already being hailed as "the best golf course in the world". "This is great for golf and what's good for golf is good for Scotland because Scotland is the homefront for golf," he said.
