"On the morning of 8 March 2013 I looked outside my kitchen window to see that someone had entered my property, unravelled the water hose and slung it over my high boundary wall and onto to the street side. I went outside to the front of the property to see who was using my water, and found workmen and a man dressed in white protective clothing inside a pit on the truncation corner of the property. He was using my water. Unaware of what was happening, I walked to the edge of the pit and inquired why he had seen fit to enter my property and help himself to my water, without permission. Also, he was digging dangerously close one of my very large garden plants, which I feared would be killed. The man in the pit eventually told me he was using the water to subside asbestos fibres in the pit. I was standing right next to the pit. He had protective clothing and mask on, I did not. I was shocked. I had had no prior warning of any asbestos risk to my property, they had seen fit to trespass onto my property and steal my water, and I had received no warning to not approach the pit. No explanation was given to me. I went back into the house and immediately contacted the South Perth City Council and told them what had happened. They were not interested and I was told it was NBN's issue. I was given the contact number NBN had left with the council in case of problems. I then called NBN, related what happened, and was given a case reference number by them, telling me someone would call me back. I later received a call from NBN to inform me that these were Telstra workers and that he would contact Telstra about it himself and that Telstra would then contact me. Sometime later, I received a call from Telstra, telling me that I should talk to the workers. I told them that I would not, and that I didn't want to expose myself further to fibres by talking with them. They then said that they would call them and provided me with another reference number. I was told they would call me again within a few days. Shortly after that, one of the workers came to my front door, despite my telling Telstra that I didn't want to talk with them. I was taking an important telephone call at the time and they interrupted it. I did not speak with them. I am still waiting for Telstra to call me, as promised." Maria, WA

"The Telstra pit on my footpath was asbestos. The workmen took it up and it was placed in a plastic bag. The guy doing the job looked like someone from Mars. When NBN dug up the footpath they cut my phone line and ruined my internet access. It cost me $150 for a computer tech. plus a new router to get things working again. Not happy Joan. Now I have NBN it is slower and my computer freezes about 2 or 3 times a week . The costs are much higher also. " Joan, NSW

"Asbestos pit was discovered at the end of my street a few months back when the Telstra redemption work was being carried out. Visionstream workers caged off area, hosed down pit then removed the asbestos and placed it into plastic bags which were then sealed. Workers had full safety gear on. Hopefully we come online in the next few weeks. Can't wait." Tod, Tas

We have the rollout in our street at moment and a pit out the front of our house but have seen any digging to date. but would be concerned if i did.

"We found the NBN rollout to be very profesionally and efficiently run. The staff were cooperative and very willing to share knowledge. There were some hiccups with the provider which were sorted quicker than any of our previous Telecom providers. Keep up the good work. I will say Telstra in typical style disconnected our phone service earlier than agreed thereby stopping us using our existing phone number on VOIP. Is this the "improved service to all Australians, everywhere" that John Howard promised us when he sold Telstra and opened up the telco market? I've been waiting nearly 25 years. Maybe I missed it?

"I saw the NBN guys ""rolling out"" the network in Yarraville several weeks ago. On close examination I noticed that not only was the cable not optic fibre it was not even copper, it was in fact blue rope. That's right, blue rope and there were reels of it in their van. It would appear that they are engineering a return to the taught string attached to jam tin technology of the past albeit with a greater band width. Still, I can't see it as much of an improvement on the current technology! I'd like to see the minister explain this." Peter, Vic

If it was available here, I'd be on it in a moment! I'm on telstra cable, and whenever it rains, it drops out... the latency of fibre is incredible too!

They are rolling out now in Seaford Adelaide and fortunately for my street, asbestos was long stopped being used when it was built.

"My main concerns were to do with my service provider, rather than the NBN. The provider managed to delete my email address instead of transferring it from ADSL to NBN. It is possible that this was a teething problem, as we were one of the first areas in Australia to receive the NBN, but I wouldn't have thought it would result in no email for one month. It took many hours and many phone calls to sort out." - Kelly, Qld

"I connected to the NBN at the end of last year in Armidale. The offer of access to a free trial by Skymesh made the decision of who to go with an easy one. I opted for the fastest, and largest available plan - and I was still finding it cheaper than what I had previously be offered by Telstra on ADSL. The install was painless - I had done my homework on where I could get it, and what prep work had to be done (a powerpoint install) so the installer had no issue. We run multiple devices and multiple users at the same time, with no congestion. We no longer think about the internet - we just do things. Uploading photos, backups and video, while downloading, streaming and browsing all at the same time without any trouble." - Jack, NSW

My brother installs it in Townsville. We have it here in tassie. We love it. So fast, so cheap, so much better. We had dial up here but now the nbn. Fantastic. We use the nbn at work talking to our other offices and hospitals around the country. Much better and clearer and nicer than trying to do it by phone

"Oh how I would love to tell you of my NBN experience. I fear I will never see it! What a slow process it is to get it to all parts of the country. Last time I checked when we were due, no date - not even a specific year was given as an estimate. Bad seems all I have done for three months is give people money, and after 3 months istill no net, now they say I have to pay for some one to come in and rewire my lines into my unit

"My late father, some of my uncles and myself all worked in the car industry most of our lives, and yes it is sad to see the Ford factory closed. However as a percentage of the population of Melbourne and Geelong the losst is so insignificant, even if you multiply the number by the flow-on effect. "I worked for BMW in Germany for eight years as a young engineer in BMW advanced manufaturing division. Immigrated to Australia in 1996 and I have worked as a consultant and have visited several companies manufacturing cars and car components. I think cost is not the reason why Ford (and other car manufacturers) cannot and will not survive in Australia. Germany has a much higher cost base and its car industry is doing well. I think Australian manufacturing is suffering because of poor design, poor quality, poor planning and poor comitment." - Mark

"I have owned and sold Fords for many years and truly believe in buying Australian. Unfortunately they started to design ugly cars in the '90s and now it's all over. It's not rocket science designing and selling cars: make them reliable, of good quality, and make them look more futuristic than their competitors.
