Some great regional galleries have very special collections indeed and are overlooked at our peril. The Whitworth in Manchester, for example, has a textiles holding second only to the V&A's in London, and is also strong on wallpaper, landscape painting, and drawings both historic and contemporary.

‘In the Mix’ is a series of music/sound/art commissions and events that will animate the University of Manchester’s cultural resources: Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester Museum, John Rylands Library, Jodrell Bank and Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama.

Wonder Women: Radical Manchester

In the run-up to 2018, Wonder Women: Radical Manchester will run a programme of events that coincides with International Women's Day and other important milestones. In 2013, there are over 20 organisations taking part, with 45 events spread over four weeks - from Sunday 3 March until Thursday 4 April.

To celebrate International Women's day and Radical Manchester, Gillian Smithson will highlight the achievements of two prominent women, Lydia Becker and Marie Stopes. On Sunday morning we set out for Wakefield to visit the Hepworth Gallery where we intended to see the Richard Long exhibition that's showing there until mid October. Heading down the M61 we started to see a message on the matrix signs telling us that the M62 was closed at Junction 21.

The Kennel Club helps out Manchester Museum - The Kennel Club

The Manchester Museum is set to hold a six-month exhibition on dogs starting in October, and the Kennel Club has been happy to offer some of its greatest books, paintings and pieces of art towards it. The exhibition titled 'Breed: The British and their Dogs' will run at the Manchester Museum based within the University of Manchester from 6 October until 14 April 2013.

The exhibition focuses on six pedigree dogs: bloodhound, borzoi, bulldog, collie, Irish wolfhound and Pekingese. When I first noticed that one of our Middle Kingdom statuettes (Acc. no. 9325) had been turned around 180 degrees to face the back of its case in our new Ancient Worlds galleries, I wondered who had changed the object's position this without telling me.
