The audience in Paris' Hotel de Ville received an insight into how HuffPost Live views their strategy and the merging of traditional and digital. Sekoff stated it plainly. If you are a traditional media company without a digital strategy, you are likely to be "dead".

From our audience, the key issue of finance was raised. At only 10 months old, HuffPost Live did not to be profitable at this point yet and they are not, however, they have hired 100 people in 3 months. Don't be fooled, the segments, despite their live feel, still need a lot of preparation. There is still a role for not only video editors but narrative editors too.

He cited the recent tornadoes as an excellent example of how tools like Storify enable better coverage. It was a story that was touch many people's lives. These people could contribute, but no traditional news organisation would be able to put enough feet on the ground. Storify could tap into people who were already there. However, this does not diminish the role of journalists.

Following him were some of the players hoping to offer the answer to that crisis: drone journalism.

Robert Picard (pictured below), a leading academic on media economic, was joined by drone developers and early adopters of the technology to discuss the impact these devices could have for the industry.

However, training costs, safety, and legal issues were all mentioned as obstacles the technology currently faces. The biggest question of the day remained how flying drones would be perceived by the general population.

The biggest challenge for Burma's new media. according to Myint, is to overcome the suspicions of ordinary citizens. People still don't trust newspapers and broadcasters to give them the truth.

On 8-9 May 2013, The Global Editors Network organised The Editors’ Lab New Delhi as part of the series of international hackdays. The event brought together prestigious media organizations in India, who spent two days developing a new project concept around the theme “Journalistic tools to cover Global Development issues”.

The Editors’ Lab India was organised by GEN and hosted at the headquarters of India Today in New Delhi one of the most prominent news media groups in India.

Conditions in New Delhi were hard for the teams, but they managed to work and deliver great projects.

The winner of the Editors' Lab New Delhi was Mint, a local newspaper.

Their project is an interactive database that allows users, whether government officials, NGOs, retailers, private citizens or journalists, to access information on households in urban slums, from a country-wide to a hyper-local level, across India's 46, million-plus cities.

They will go on to the GEN News Hackathon to be held at the GEN News Summit from 19 – 21 of June, 2013.
