Total Recall hits the cinemas this 3rd of August, 2012. This 2012 remake of the original 1990 Total Recall has made certain plot differences such as removing the concept of the protagonist’s wish (and eventual fulfilment) to travel to Mars and the political overtones are more apparent but other than that, the film is still using the same premise. Total Recall is loosely-based on a Philip K. Dicks short story We Can Remember it for You Wholesale. The main character, Douglas Quaid, live in a futuristic Earth wherein the planet is divided into two superpowers after being ravaged by war. Douglas Quaid is a simple man, living with his “wife” Lori, except for the recurring violent nightmares that haunt Quaid. One day, he decides to visit Rekall Corporation, a company that implants artificial memories to its clients, according to the client’s wishes. Quaid wished that he wanted to be a secret agent, much to the chagrin of Rekall that the memories were already there, only erased. A band of military men came attacking the place and Rekall’s staffs were ruthlessly killed. Out of confusion, Quaid escapes from the place and a chase ensues.
