K-PAX: medicalized others
A story from a livetweeting of the film K-PAX, part of Social/Science/Fiction Summer 2012, SIS, American University.
- How do we deal with the potentially alien other? One way is to assume he's crazy, and look for a way to cure him of his obvious delusion. Maybe dramatic, maybe subtle, but always therapeutic.
- Hard to maintain the boundaries between sanity and insanity when the "delusion" appears so compelling.
- The patient as therapist. Listening to the alien instead of trying to cure him.
- @Tulililli doctor, patient -- what an interesting distinction. We don't have that on K-PAX. #ptjssf
- Who was cured, in the end? And what were they cured of?
