Very nice ESPN-Tebow rant

TEEEEEEEEEEEEBOOOOOOOOOOW

  1. I am inherently distrustful of cults of personality, so I have for years been trying to avoid the whole Tebow thing. It's been a lot more difficult than it should have been. Luckily, I don't really have the option of watching ESPN shows like First Take, what with me having a job and all. Unfortunately for Awful Announcing, that IS his (I assume) job, or at least part of it. Good rants are awesome, and this is a very good rant, so it is very awesome.
  2. Let's see what cutting edge reporting First Take and SportsCenter are doing today... bit.ly/Si4M5e
  3. If your world consisted of ESPN, you'd think the biggest story in the world today was Tim Tebow's birthday.
  4. I'm not joking, I'm now watching a segment with Herm Edwards telling Tim Tebow he'd give him a conductor's hat for a birthday present.
  5. And Marcellus Wiley says he'd give Tim Tebow privacy. Privacy. In a segment based upon birthday presents from ESPN to Tim Tebow.
  6. I mean my God, have we reached this point? Have we really reached this point where birthday presents to Tim Tebow is news?
  7. The ESPN I once knew covered news. The SportsCenter I grew up with showed highlights. It was funny, it was relevant, it was interesting.
  8. Where are the Reds, the Nationals, and the Pirates? Those are great sports stories. And they get nothing. Day after day.
  9. I know the NFL rules all. I know NFL is king. I know NFL drives ratings and money. I know all of this.
  10. But there's no way the two lead stories in sports on August 14, 2012 are Tebow's birthday and a 3-0 NFL preseason game.
  11. Here's how FT opened: "After a month of build up, we actually have another reason to talk about Tim Tebow today. It's his 25th birthday."
  12. Here's what ESPN is going to be this fall: Jets highlights. Tebow highlights. Tebow analysis. Tebow debate. Tebow v Sanchez debate.
  13. It's just amazing to see ESPN cling to Tim Tebow and the Wildcat as their only hopes for keeping TebowMania alive.
  14. Another rant is coming. I'm going to need a cigarette after this.
  15. Skip Bayless is astonished that the biggest story in sports today is the 25th birthday of the Jets backup QB.
  16. Skip Bayless: "I don't want to come off like I'm some psycho stalker fan of Tim Tebow." REALLY???? REALLLY!!!!!!!!
  17. Asking Skip Bayless if he's surprised at how big TebowMania has become is akin to asking Victor Frankenstein if his monster surprised him.
  18. What's ESPN going to do when Tim Tebow gets four snaps at QB in Week 1? Does the whole network go into anaphylactic shock?
  19. ESPN's Tebow obsession is a joke. A joke. Why do you think so many people want NBCSN to succeed? To push ESPN to be better. That's it.
  20. I don't want ESPN to be obliterated. I don't want the ESPN empire to fall. I want them to be better. I want them to serve fans better.
  21. Tim Tebow's birthday celebration extravaganza is rock bottom for ESPN though.
  22. It's nothing against Tim Tebow. I like Tim Tebow. I really do. I despise what ESPN has turned him into.
  23. TebowMania and this embrace debate nonsense does nothing more than feed our lowest common denominator.
  24. And to compound TebowMania, to compound all that hyperbole, where is ESPN's journalistic integrity? Where is today's Mickey Loomis story?
