As day one progresses we have more to report to you! We've been out and about scooping as many events as we can. There have been a lot of great presentations and panels, and both speakers and attendees are having a great time, judging by the input we're receiving via social media! Read along to see what's been going on on the first day of the festival!
- First off, we've taped several of the speaker shows for you to watch. We will be uploading these throughout the festival. The first one we've uploaded is the keynote by Lorenzo de Rita, The Best City Never Seen. Enjoy!
- One of our teammates went out with a photographer to shoot some portraits of our attendees. She asked them some questions, so we can get a more indepth look at who exactly attends the festival. Find the portraits on Facebook here.
- We've also done more audio interviews. Listen to one here, with someone who is bringing his ideas for the future of cities to the festival site, and actually building them here too!
You can listen to more audio interviews done by Roeland of Shoudio on the Picnic Shoudio page here.
Also providing the event with live coverage is GNR8, an initiative of Hogeschool InHolland. This team of multidisciplinary students is present at all kinds of creative and innovative events around the country, providing media coverage in the form of interviews and video reports. They are doing reports on PICNIC as well, and you can view today's video's as well as the reports to come on the rest of the festival, below (in Dutch). One of the media partners of PICNIC festival - 2010LAB.tv - is hosting panels where attendees at the festival as well as people following the Twitter stream via #picnic11, can ask questions and stimulate the discussion with actual speakers at the event. The 'Twevent', as 2010LAB calls it, takes place on thursday at 14:00, entirely on Twitter. As a special interview, 2010LAB will ask renowned media futurist Gerd Leonhard to answer some questions. If you want to participate, all you have to do is post your questions on Twitter, using hashtags #picnic11 and #askthespeaker. For a list of all the speakers and more information, follow this link.
Via Twitter we have announced that every festival day we will select an Instagram photo of the day. For today we have a winner! The picture below was posted by @frank_tentler and is a close-up of an art installation located somewhere on the festival terrain. We thought it captures the idea that Instagram allows us to bring forward the small details in urban landscapes that would otherwise remain hidden. So congratulations to @frank_tentler! Tomorrow and friday there will be two more competitions. If you're an Instagram user and at the festival terrain, join in using #picnic11 hashtags on Instagram!
- With that, we're getting close to wrapping up the first day of PICNIC 2011. We've seen that there's something for everyone here, as the tweets below show us. We hope everyone has a good evening, either at the PICNIC dinner or elsewhere, and after a good night's sleep we'll welcome you all at the gates tomorrow morning!
