Round up on the panel "Is curation the future of the social web?"

This panel took place at PariSoma and was moderated by Ben Parr from Mashable. Panelists were Burt Hermann from Storify, Guillaume Decugis from Scoop it and Chris McCann from StartUp digest. Curation is a conversation between a person and an audience. It is biased by nature and the role is of the curator is to go through massive amount of information to tell his story.

  1. #curationSF curation vs aggregation? @burtherman humans are telling a story vs aggregation
  2. Good DJ vs bad DJ. It is not the collection of content..it is how you put music together @gdecugis #curationsf
  3. Biggest change in curation in last couple years? Panel says democratization. #curationsf
  4. #curationSF sheer volume of media is exploding so we need somebody to select. Everybody can participate in the curation.
  5. The future: Easily finding what's relevant to you #curationsf
  6. Imagine how many people around the world are tweeting the lyrics to Imagine. #curationsf
  7. @mccannatron main value to curators is coming with your name and people knows who you are.
  8. @burtherman feedback is key. People want to be heard. Number of pageviews,....is what rewards.
  9. Business people are willing to help curate because it gives them visibility. Example: curators of StartupDigest emails. #CurationSF
  10. @gdecugis doing curation is better faster cheaper than blogging for most people if you want to be heard.
  11. Next major trend? #curationSF shifting from people centric to topic centric.
  12. @benparr more coming from the audience than from journalists in the future.
