Hurricane 101

CNN's Lizzie O'Leary provides a hurricane primer.

  1. I shall now begin Hurricane 101 for those of you unfamiliar.
  2. You will want: water, gatorade, beef jerky, cash, a full tank of gas, power bars, BUG SPRAY, a full bathtub (for flushing toilet if no h2o).
  3. Do not get canned food. It's heavy & you need an opener.
  4. Filling up your tub is not for drinking. It's for flushing when you lose water pressure. You will want this. #hurricane101
  5. Do NOT put a full gas can inside your car. Some moron does this in every storm. Bad idea. #hurricane101
  6. Have a phone that is not cordless. Battery-powered radios are a nice extra. #hurricane101
  7. @lizzieohreally You should probably note that our bugs down here laugh in the face of citronella. Go hardcore DEET or go home.
  8. Ziploc bags for all your wireless devices and important papers. #hurricane101
  9. Also, even if cell phone service goes you can probably text. #Isaac
  10. Know your evac route, charge your cell phone, take out some cash. Get some dry savory food. Granola bars get old fast. #hurricane101
  11. No one ever remembers sunscreen & a ball cap. You will want them after. #hurricane101
  12. @lizzieohreally You CANNOT forget Fix-a-Flat. Driving through all the debris will cause many a punctured tire.
  13. Yes! RT @EmilySmithCNN: @lizzieohreally hand sanitizer or wet wipes are great if you don't have access to a shower/running water
  14. @lizzieohreally Never kennel dogs. If on assignment beg friend to take them. Learned the hard way & dog was in powerless kennel for 3 days.
