  1. Introduction

  2. Hello! This is =D live-tweeting the quarterly joint meeting of county commissioners and Planning Board. Tune into #BOCC.
  3. Tonight's tweets will focus mainly on agenda items related to the economic development districts (EDDs). #BOCC
  4. The EDD items are rezoning plans for Buckhorn and Eno EDDs, big step in county manager Clifton's worrying vision for #econdev. #BOCC
  5. Eno Economic Development District

  6. Now on item 2: changing zoning and/or land uses for 500 acres in Eno EDD (I-85/US 70 interchange at Durham Co line). #BOCC
  7. Agreements in place with Durham to extend public water/sewer into Eno EDD, which overlaps Durham urban growth boundary. #BOCC
  8. Southern edge of Eno EDD to have low-intensity #econdev uses; central/northern areas to have higher-intensity #econdev. #BOCC
  9. Part 2 of Eno EDD item involves rezoning of about 350 acres. #BOCC
  10. Area of Eno EDD will eventually be annexed by City of Durham. #BOCC
  11. Several public comments on Eno EDD concerned with water/sewer extension, Durham annexation, change in residential character. #BOCC
  12. Robin Jacobs says Eno EDD rezoning plan could place high-intensity uses in Stony Creek Basin resource protection area. #BOCC
  13. "What authority will Orange County have to resist the annexation by Durham?" #BOCC
  14. Comr Jacobs: This is one of the poorest planning presentations I have seen in past 30 years. #BOCC
  15. Comr Jacobs: Rushing to do something without preparing it thoroughly and openly is just wrong. #BOCC
  16. Comr Jacobs: Also important to be clear with people that they will be annexed into Durham eventually, for better or worse. #BOCC
  17. Comr Yuhasz: Shortsighted not to move forward with Eno EDD planning. #BOCC
  18. Comr Jacobs: Orange Co history to protect natural resources, not degrade them. Do not straddle Stony Creek with industrial uses. #BOCC
  19. (Apologies for multiple misspellings of Stoney Creek.) #BOCC
  20. Comr Hemminger: Eno EDD plan is confusing, should be tweaked before referral to Planning Board. #BOCC
  21. #BOCC votes to delay Eno EDD zoning and land use changes until concerns can be addressed and additional public comment considered.
  22. Buckhorn Economic Development District

  23. Agenda item 3 is on zoning changes to 232 acres in Buckhorn EDD. #BOCC
