Olympic Cabinet meeting - 200 days to go
Today Cabinet members in the UK government are meeting at the venue for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Stratford. They will then travel to visit people around the country who are contributing to a successful Games.
- The Cabinet Meeting has now finished and ministers are travelling to different parts of the UK to meet people who are contributing to London 2012.
Take a look at a Flickr map which shows photos of their visits. - Ministers were shown images from the new GREAT campaign which is designed to promote the UK abroad, and aims to deliver long-term economic benefits from the unprecedented level of interest generated by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It has just been announced by UK Trade and Investment that a programme of meetings between British and international businesses has been arranged to take place during the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.
Commenting this morning, David Cameron said:"This summer's Olympics will put the eyes of the world on Britain as we host not just an unparalleled sporting spectacle, but also a chance for companies from across the globe to interact and do business here in the UK."We are working hard to make sure the whole country can seize this once in a generation opportunity. We expect these events to generate at least £1bn for British businesses and they are vital to our efforts to secure a long-term return to sustainable growth.”
- The Prime Minister chairs a meeting of the Cabinet in the Handball Arena:
- Ahead of this morning's Cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister said: “As we kick off 2012, the year of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Diamond Jubilee, this is the perfect time for the Cabinet to come together and ensure we are doing absolutely everything we can to make the most of this unique opportunity to showcase all the great things the UK has to offer to the rest of the world."
- David Cameron arrived at Stratford station in East London early this morning. He travelled on the Southeastern high speed Javelin shuttle service from St Pancras International to the Olympic Park.
