Digital Agenda Assembly: a (b)log book

On June 21-22 the European Commission opened the doors to stakeholders to discuss all the relevant issues for the Digital Agenda review. I was lucky enough to sit in both the Plenary and the Converged Media Platforms workshop. Here's my log book of the event.

  1. It all started here, in March this year. A very challenging and exciting project to get stakeholders online to openly discuss the Digital Agenda for Europe and how it can be improved. Check out what people had to say about the Converged Media Platforms strategy.
  2. On the road to Brussels, people gathered online, discussed and shared their opinions, also via Twitter by using the hashtags #da12 for the Digital Agenda Assembly and #da12converge for the theme on Converged Media Platforms.
  3. Day One

We started off on June 21st with a series of 8 parallel workshops taking place at the Committee of the Regions. An early morning rise it was, but it was well worth it...
  4. Bright sunny morning in Brussels, and time to head off in search of coffee before #da12converge #da12
  5. Took ages to register but finally here! So excited for #da12converge session at the Digital Agenda Assembly today! http://pic.twitter.com/U7MtbZEo
  6. Live streaming was offered to all those who couldn't attend and a live twitting session made it more fun and interactive for everyone on and off-site (or so I hope!).
  7. Want to know more about the state of online video & media convergence in Europe? Follow the #DigitalAgenda Assembly at bit.ly/NcDzC3
  8. And then finally we kicked off!
  9. interested in #connectedtv and converged media platforms? we're about to kick off at #da12converge!
  10. ...with a little unwanted attention for some of us :)
  11. Six sessions based on a TV show format explored issues related to convergence of media platforms with a particular focus on connected TV, but also extended to issues such as content creation and consumption via social media.

The anchorwoman for the day was Angela Mills Wade, Executive Director of the European Publishers Council.

  12. A.M.Wade:how to use technology to the fullest in a converged world?how to expanding digital market for business and consumers? #da12converge
  13. And don't say the European Commission doesn't take your word seriously...
  14. the input from all of you will feed into a Paper of the EC on #ConnectedTV and Converged Media Platforms at the end of 2012. #da12converge
  15. Then it was on to Session 1..

9:30-10:00 Session 1 - Scene setter: news programme. (20 minutes presentation of main issues) – Caroline Pauwels, IBBT SMIT VUB

  16. C.Pauwels: every 40-60 years there is a revolution: this is the 5th one brought by ICT #da12converge
  17. C.Pauwels: it's a content-driven revolution but let's be careful about content overload! #da12converge
