Now In Tanzania...It could be different if....

Why EABL made it possible for Rick Ross to come to Tanzania...and what are the difficulties faced by Kenyan Promoters!

  1. Dear Kenyan music fan come out to concerts in numbers like this Rick Ross in Tanzania: pic.twitter.com/ogPLeIql then talk about top artists
  2. Tanzania keeps bringin them, Kenya keeps recycling them.
  3. You can't blame Kenyan sponsors because the Rick Ross concert in Tanzania was sponsored by EABL; a Kenyan company. pic.twitter.com/ogPLeIql
  4. Kenyan companies would rather go sponsor a concert in Tanzania because the music fans are loyal & come out. pic.twitter.com/ogPLeIql Numbers
  5. I have done this before but let me break down again how the Kenyan government taxes promoters. Are you ready for the shock?
  6. So as soon a promoter in Kenya says they bringing an international artist $$$ bells start ringing in all govt offices. Immigration to KRA.
  7. The taxes: Immigration, Kenya Tax Revenue, Lands Office, Environment office, Security, Information everyone of these Ministry want a piece.
  8. First to pay the artist you show through an Eskrow account that you have the full fee. The artist requires a half down payment of the show
  9. The Kenyan govt then requires promoter to show contract between artist & promoter. They take 10% of that fee. This must be paid in advance.
  10. After paying 10% of artist fee. Promoter must pay Immigration for Special Work Permit. That's 25K per member of entourage paid in advance.
  11. After 10% artist tax, Special Work Permit, promoter must print the tickets and go back to KRA to stamp them. They also tax 10% of the ticket
  12. After paying 10% artist tax, Special Work Permits, 10% ticket tax, the promoter must comply with enviroment law and pay that noise tax.....
  13. I know you already have a headache and promoter hasn't even paid for venue which is hectic. Then security, publicity, transportation..
  14. By the time any sane person has paid taxes worth their whole investment, some of you will already be retired. So don't blame promoters.
  15. After all those taxes already out of a promoter's pocket do I even need to continue? Promoters are very patient people in Kenya. Overtaxed
  16. The promoter who brought Sean Paul and Wayne Wonder ran outta business. Losses galore.
