How to become a mobile ninja in the field at Journalism interactive
Assistant Professor Judd Slivka explains how to use mobile tools while reporting to quickly generate direct-to-social content. Slivka teaches multimedia journalism and introduced the fire core journalism course taught entirely mobile devices at the University of Missouri.
- "I've come to a realization, we're doing mobile journalism wrong," Slivka said. Slivka says journalists are still using techniques that work for broadcast culture and need to adapt to mobile culture.
- Slivka addressed the common issue reporters might run into when trying to work on mobile devices in the field. What happens when you use too many mobile enhancements to boost the quality of mobile reporting?
- Some attendees have their own methods of enhancing quality of mobile footage at little expense...
- The test is: Can you build it in 90 seconds or less? If not, you're losing time to be first!
- Slivka demonstrated a variety of iOS application that pass the 90 second test and can be incredibly helpful when reporting from mobile devices. Among them, "Type A", "Video in Video", "PicPlayPost", "Diptic Video" and many more.
- Some attendees even tried out the apps during the presentation.
- But if you missed it, you can still learn about all the apps and techniques approved by Slivka on his blog at http://www.juddslivka.com/mobile-ninja-swords-throwing-stars-and-apps/ …
