  3. The discussion focused on the far-reaching impact wireless has on our everyday lives and the potential it holds for America’s future. Speakers included AT&T Chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson and Silver Lake Co-Founder Glenn Hutchins.
  4. As recent data shows, there are 330 million mobile subscriptions in North America, one in four smartphone owners also have a tablet and 64% of Americans use 3G mobile Internet.  Our wireless networks are being taxed at a dizzying rate- North America’s network currently run at 80% capacity (compared with the 65% global average)- and as both speakers emphasized, the U.S. needs to make more spectrum available for wireless use.
  5. Hutchins: Best thing govn't can do is make #spectrum available. Critical "pinchpoint" in US competitiveness #TechCTI
  6. Hutchins - we need a problem-solving policy mentality that can keep pace with technological change. #TechCTI
  7. Both Hutchins and AT&T CEO Stephenson stress importance of addressing allocation of spectrum #TechCTI
  8. A few points really resonated with the Twitterverse, these included:
  9. Future trends: smart phones replace car keys and wallet; healthcare; home monitoring/control. infrastructure is needed. #TechCTI
  10. Glenn Hutchins: #mobile is the largest addressable market of ALL-TIME. Forecasting 100% growth in near term. Massive Opportunity. #TechCTI
  11. The FCC's own data showing the U.S. will exceed existing spectrum capacity as early as next year was a point of concern:
  12. RT @mobilefuture: By 2013 spectrum supply will exceed demand says #fcc #spectrum must be put to best use for mobile users. #TechCTI
  13. We are in a condition today where we see exhaust in some very key markets by 2013 - Stephenson at @BrookingsInst #TechCTI #spectrum
  14. Stats highlighting the growth of mobile reverberated across the Twitterverse:
  15. There will be 500,000 WiFi hotspots in London for the #Olympics. This is done by the private sector, with a fast pace -Hutchins #TechCTI
  16. RT @WirelessGeorge RT @mobilefuture: 2007 first launch of iPhone in US. Today more than 40 mil smartphones on @att networks. Wow. #TechCTI
  17. The takeaway from today’s event? The U.S. needs to act now and take key steps to ensure spectrum is made available in a timely manner to meet wireless consumers growing demand for all things mobile.
