Structured Content: Some Follow-Up

Our latest post, introducing the idea and importance of structured content, prompted some great feedback by two smart minds from the mobile and content strategy spheres.

  1. As usual, Dave Olsen set his gaze forward and articulated the challenge ahead.
  2. we need to move beyond giving content structure and now also give that content *meaning*.
  3. @radiofreegeorgy the thing we're currently struggling with is how do we make intelligent content creation effortless.
  4. @radiofreegeorgy e.g. not forcing people into silos & forms in a CMS to create content like an FAQ or event listing.
  5. Sara Wachter-Boettcher, the forthcoming author of "Content Everywhere" who wrote an article for A List Apart on future-ready content, chimed in with an idea on what's needed to progress:
  6. @meetcontent @dmolsen This is an ongoing struggle, and it requires a shift in thinking. Fields that match chunks of meaning can help...
  7. @meetcontent @dmolsen ...But that takes takes good content modeling by a person who's thinking about message AND who understands CMS users.
  8. @meetcontent @dmolsen ...Which is why I think content people should be all up on that challenge. No more leaving it to database folk!
  9. Olsen followed up...
  10. @sara_ann_marie @meetcontent what we're playing with is in-context editing that just happens to create intelligent content. (1/2)
  11. @sara_ann_marie @meetcontent we *really* want to avoid having to define things in a database or form fields. it's... ambitious :)
  12. Well said, all. Thanks for weighing in!
