(Ita-En )CONTINUOSLY UPDATED from this first official statements of the U.S. that is the beginning of the story:

  1. 9/12----------- 2.48 pm ET "Regarding the attack on the main compound, a U.S. source says three people – Stevens; Sean Smith, a U.S. Foreign Service information management officer; and a security officer – were in a safe room. The house was on fire (CNN has previously reported the building was on fire after a grenade attack), and the security officer got out. The officer then went back in for Stevens and Smith, and he found Smith's body and retrieved it. The officer could not find Stevens, the source said."

Lately was known that The ambassador, J. Christopher Stevens, was missing almost immediately after the start of an intense, four-hour firefight for control of the mission, and his body was not located until Wednesday morning at dawn, when he was found dead at a Benghazi hospital, American and Libyan officials said. It was the first time since 1979 that an American ambassador died in a violent assault.
