- Police attack protesters in Manchester.
- (12:15) Pictures of those wanted in Manchester.
- (11:30) Manchester Police press conference text:
Situating in Salford was particularly violent.
About 100 premises in Salford and Manchester have been broken into.
Youngest arrest in Manchester 15, altogether there have been 113 arrests.
We faced a difficult situation as this was about groups of people who were moving on, this was a fluid situation.
These people have used recent events to have a greater impact.
A lot of my officers have described what they have seen as being heartbreaking, at times we were powerless.
We feel particularly bad for those who lost businesses and we'll be doing what we can to support them.
I'd like to pay tribute to all the officers that were out there last night.
Today there will be even more officers on the streets today, we have requested help from other forces and that is on the way.
We have got to give a very clear message to those who come into the city centre with criminal activities they will be dealt with robustly. - (11:24) MPs on the street cleaning in Wolverhampton.
- (11:18) David Cameron:
It is a moral problem as well as a political problem.
We have been dealing with something that is new. There are major lessons to learn so we are prepared for anything like this to happen again.
There will be a Cabinet meeting, Cobra meeting and debate in parliament tomorrow. (11:09) PM David Cameron now making statement
Since yesterday there are more police on the street, more arrests and more charges.
A more robust policing across the city was successful.
There have been over 750 arrests so far in London. Picture by picture these criminals are being arrested and we won't allow any phoney claims of human rights stop us from publishing these images.
We have seen the worst of Britain but we have also seen the best, there is no room for complacency we still have lots to do.
IN Birmingham only 160 rests were made, in Salford up to 1,000 youths were attacking police.
This continued violence is simply unacceptable and it will be stopped.
Whatever resources the police need they will get, whatever measures they need to use
Contingency for a water cannon to be available at 24 hours notice.
These people are not representative of our communities and many young people despise these people as well.
Some parts of society not just broken, they are sick. There are things that are badly wrong in society. There is a complete lack of responsibility people thinking their rights outweigh their responsibilities.
Today the priority is still clear we will take every action to improve the situation.
- (10:55) Some video from Manchester riots last night and pictures of the clean-up in progress.
- (10:50) Ken Livingstone criticises Boris Johnson.
"Boris Johnson may want to look like a critic of the government for
police cuts but this is fake and hypocrisy as he has been ramming
through overall police cuts in London and undermining neighbourhood
policing himself."He adds: "Under Boris Johnson's own plan the police sergeant in his own ward is having to reapply for his own job.
"Boris
Johnson is criticising the government for policies he is himself
carrying out to attempt to divert attention from his own failure in
policy and response for dealing with the riots in London."
