I Love The Principles of Knitting

I'm taking notes and suggesting more sources as I read it for the first time.

  1. This has been the most awesome 5 weeks of reading the same book I've ever had. :) #PoKLove
  2. We've come to the back of the book: conversion charts/formulas; glossary; bibliography (8 pages!); and index. #PoKLove
  3. Fringe: knotted, and unraveled. (ed. - I've also seen unraveled fringe left uncut, so that it forms a series of loops.). p. 650. #PoKLove
  4. Single crochet turned edge: simple, effective, and hides an edge that didn't turn out so great. p. 649. #PoKLove
  5. Casings: sewn yarn, crocheted, or woven. Good for adding elastic to ribbing. pp. 648 - 649. #PoKLove
  6. Hide yarn ends: at edges; within fabric; with duplicate stitch. pp. 647 - 648, #PoKLove
  7. EZ's tip for grafting: make two large-stitch swatches, stabilize the open ends with some machine stitching, and practice. #PoKLove
  8. How to work grafting, a.k.a. kitchener stitch. pp. 641 - 646. That's right. 5 pages: over a dozen methods. #PoKLove
  9. Attaching ribbon, zippers, and other woven stuff to knits: prepare well. pp. 637 - 641. #PoKLove
  10. For machine-sewn steeks, use tear-away stabilizer to prevent snags. p. 636. #PoKLove
  11. Steeks: hand-sewn, crocheted (my fave), and machine-sewn. pp. 635 - 636. #PoKLove
  12. "you can cut a knitted fabric anywhere...allow one column of stitches on either side of the cutting...to serve as selvedges." p635 #PoKLove
  13. Sewing in dolman sleeve seams and sewing fulled (felted) knits. pp. 634 - 635. #PoKLove
  14. Sewing in Sleeves: turn sweater inside-out, place sleeve inside sweater, line up edges, baste, then sew in. p. 634. #PoKLove
  15. Other seams: crochet, machine-sewn, selvedges outside, for turned-back cuffs, for wide selvedges, for top/bottom. pp. 632 - 634. #PoKLove
  16. More: catchstitch. That's the only one that didn't fit. pp. 631 - 632. #PoKLove
  17. Real sewing for knits: backstitch, prickstitch, running stitch, basting stitch, whipstitch, overcasting, hem stitch. pp. 628 - 631. #PoKLove
  18. Selvedge Nub Seam (for garter stitch) and 3 methods for chain selvedge seams. pp. 627 - 628. #PoKLove
  19. Let the edge stitch from one side of your seam run down, then use the freed loops to crochet-chain the seam. pp. 626 - 627. #PoKLove
  20. Linked Seam - I think I really am in love. pp. 626 - 627. #PoKLove
  21. Three methods for sewing stockinette selvedge seams: standard, looser (with less bulk) and a combination. pp. 625 - 626. #PoKLove
