Disarmament Matters in New Zealand

On 12 December 2011, the government disbanded the Minister of Disarmament and Arms Control position and incorporated these responsibilities into the overall role of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in effect ending 25 years of New Zealand leadership in disarmament, peace, and arms control

When the New Zealand Greens announced their portfolio line-up on Wednesday, 14 December, they said that disarmament responsibilities had been incorporated into a larger role called "Global Affairs" but on Friday, 16 December, the Greens announced a separate portfolio dedicated to disarmament priorities.
