Major League Baseball puts hammer down on A-Rod, 12 others
After weeks of waiting, 13 players, including Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, were suspended for using performance enhancing drugs. Rodriguez is the only player who will appeal. Here's a look look at what players, fans and the media had to say as the news broke on Monday.
- Below is a look at the list -- minus Rodriguez. These 12 -- which includes All-Stars Nelson Cruz (Rangers), Jhonny Peralta (Tigers) and Everth Cabrera (Padres) accepted 50-game suspensions -- essentially season-ending bans for their roles in the Biogenesis case. The investigation already cost former MVP Ryan Braun the rest of this season.Rodriguez will be suspended through the end of the 2014 season (211 games), though he plans to fight it and made his season debut with the Yankees on Monday against the White Sox and is expected to play until his appeal is heard.
Players -- current and former -- chimed in after their colleagues' penalties were announced. As a group, they sound tired of getting a bad rap for cheaters.
Fans had plenty to say -- and the busted players weren't the only ones getting an earful.
