Looking for a memorable way to pop the question? Take a cue from Mike Duerksen. The Winnipegger live tweeted the lead-up to his marriage proposal to his longtime girlfriend Janelle Freed on Friday, sharing updates over eight dates, and generating over 700 enthused responses and counting.
Tomorrow I'm proposing to my girlfriend. I'll be using the hashtag #MikeProposes. Follow along! #Winnipeg- The plan is simple: over the next 12 hours I'll be taking her on 8 different dates to 8 different places. #MikeProposes
- Each location has a story and special meaning behind it -- some of them sentimental; others are inside jokes. #MikeProposes
- At each location she will get a card from me. Each card contains a picture, a memory and a wish for the future. #MikeProposes
- The last date is at around 8:30 p.m. -- a bonfire at the same place I first asked her out. #MikeProposes

@mikeduerksen #mikeproposes I'm not one for total mush but this is freaking adorable. Setting the standards high for all the guys out there!- But before we get to those eight dates, some back story:
- I first met J. in Paraguay at a conference 3 years ago. Out of the 6,400+ attendees, she caught my eye immediately. #MikeProposes
- I came up with a master plan to sit beside her at a session. It worked! She doesn't even remember first meeting me. #MikeProposes
- I stalked her for the rest of the conference. She does remember that. #MikeProposes
- At the end, she went back to her home in Pennsylvania. I went back to mine in Winnipeg. This is where the story gets good. #MikeProposes
- For the next 2 years we emailed, Skyped & texted. First weekly, then daily. I kept our budding romance a secret from everyone. #MikeProposes
- Last summer she moved to #Winnipeg for a year. I officially asked her out soon after. We've been partners in crime since. #MikeProposes
- The date play-by-plays started over breakfast, and continued across the city -- with a few hitches along the way.
