Facebook Dot Com Slash Latvia
How the Facebook Country Page option is being born....
- It was all about people when it first started..
- But you know how brands are, always wanting to stick an advertising into your life, lol --
Facebook Pages is no exclusion tho --
"Like this" and "Like that" from an automatic strap. Can't get away from brands and companies, and services, and gazillions of other stuff to "Like".
- So Latvia thought we might take advantage. Why not?The Prime Minister hollered at Mark Zuckerberg.Easy does it, sit back and watch history being made --
So while we wait for Markie Mark to holler back at us, we might work on a commercial Facebook page and market it as a country page in a while.
Enter the contest. Latvian Institute and the State Chancellery throw up a competition to create the page + strategy. It would be all cool, but there's a slight inconvenience.
They don't have any budget allocated for that..My man Winnie would put it best:Some experts agree with him, as the topic gets ink in Diena:
And the zero budget ain't just about creating the page + strategy. It's also about maintaining and updating the page.
Basically, a "life-long slavery to the Latvian State", lol(actual phrase heard from one of the contest participants)Not everybody was so pessimistic though --Ansis Egle actually quoted JFK on this one and provided some motivation to get down with this project, no doubt.
The contest jury is expected impressive as well, so why not to take a shot.Over a dozen teams applied for the contest, including professional Facebook page makers and some regular social media enthusiasts.
Some jokes in the process are inevitable --
(and you're know that in every joke, there's a piece of... joke, right?)
Anyways. The contest is in full effect, and despite some controversy, word on the street is the teams are working their butts off to create an attractive page for Latvia and get 1 million likes in the future.
(actual goal by the way, not too SMART though, lol)
