A's Pitcher Brandon McCarthy Tweets Against Homophobia

  1. Oakland A's pitcher Brandon McCarthy isn't shy about expressing his opinions on Twitter. On April 19, after a game in Anaheim, he Tweeted about two men being displayed on the stadium "Kiss Cam."
  2. They put two guys on the 'Kiss Cam' tonight. What hilarity!! (by hilarity I mean offensive homophobia). Enough with this stupid trend.
  3. The Tweet drew praise from some.
  4. Thanks for standing up for what you believe! @BMcCarthy32 I admire you for doing so and for being a great example for kids.
  5. @BMcCarthy32 I just created a twitter account so I can follow you. Thank you for your tweet speaking out against homophobia. You rock!
  6. @BMcCarthy32 just wanted to say thanks for that simple kiss cam critique and the sense you brought with it. Another reason I'm a fan!
  7. It sparked discussion among others.
  8. @BMcCarthy32 A lot of people who aren't 'homophobic' still think its disgusting for men to kiss. #nothingwrongwiththat
  9. @ChazBoNOPlease which is a personal choice and that's fine. However, the laughing at it as it's broadcast to a stadium is different.
  10. @BMcCarthy32 Is kiss cam supposed to be "funny"? The fact that homophobia is the first thing to come to mind shows where your head is at.
  11. @BMcCarthy32 Meaning your immediate thought is "this has to be an attempt to detrimentally effect the gays" is very cynical.
  12. @speefmoney so what? I know that isn't the intention, but the implication is that two guys kissing is funny. That's offensive to gay males.
  13. @speefmoney so that's why they should stop doing it. Plus, it's cheap shitty comedy so it sucks on that level as well.
  14. @BMcCarthy32 Again, who said the intentions were for people to laugh at them? Maybe it was a genuine cameraman just being fair and equal?
  15. @speefmoney it was two of our players to start. But, you also may have a point there.
  16. @BMcCarthy32 Agreed for the most part, then again I fully believe ignoring it or laughing with them will make it go away quicker...
  17. @BMcCarthy32 simply b/c it would lose its luster to the ignorant people who find it amusing. That's just a very uneducated opinion though.
  18. Of course, while McCarthy's Tweet has made him a popular topic of conversation right now, it is his play on the field that will really determine how he's thought of by A's fans.
  19. @BMcCarthy32 You're a class act and young athletes should model themselves after you. Unless you give up 5 runs again. THEN YOU'LL SUCK!!!!
