NYCC 2012: A First-Time Attendees Experience

Being a bit of a girl geek, you would have thought I would've attended numerous Comic Conventions by now. Surprisingly, I haven't -- and it took interning at Marvel this past summer to make me realize that I NEEDED to go. So I figured what better place to start than in the city that never sleeps!

  1. Friday
  2. When I got to New York Comic Con, the first thing I did was scope out the area.  I walked around the Javits Center, checking out the various booths set up and grabbing the free swag available.  Breaking away from all the tempting merchandise, I eventually made my way to my first panel!
  3. I’m moderating the Archie panel in 20 minutes! Room 1A06, w/FREE GIFT BAGS! Come watch me, with a microphone, and a captive audience.
  4. It's fitting in a way that the first panel I decided to attend was an Archie Comics panel.  Archie and his pals in Riverdale were the first comic books I was exposed to as a kid and are what initially got me into reading and collecting comic books.
  5. Everyone is lined up for the Archie panel at room 1A06. It just keeps going! #NYCC http://pic.twitter.com/krVdnZVo
  6. At my first panel at #NYCC. Got my @ArchieComics swag and ready to relax for a little while.
  7. Lots of cool stuff going on in Riverdale. @ArchieComics teaming up with MAC makeup, Archie meets #Glee, and Archie interactive game! #NYCC
  8. The Archie panel rocked, and that’s all due to the awesome fans who waited in line. Thanks, you guys!
  9. Following the Archie panel, I went to the Autographing area to meet SHATTER ME author Tahereh Mafi.  A definite must-read, SHATTER ME is a dystopian novel with something for everyone.  There's romance, adventure, and even a paranormal twist.
  10. We spotted her again on Saturday as well!
  11. Other panels I went to on Friday included Zenescope's 'Grimm Fairy Tales' and TheOneRing.net's 'The Hobbit.'  At Zenescope's panel, they previewed three minutes of the first episode of their new 'Grimm Fairy Tales' animated series funded through Kickstarter.  TheOneRing.com panel was the perfect place for Tolkein fans to find out about spoilers for the upcoming 'Hobbit' films (FYI: there will be three of them!).
  12. There is one packed house at the #nycc Grimm Animated Panel! http://pic.twitter.com/3aIzh6mo
  13. Saturday
