Western Wheel
An interesting situation in Okotoks where Danielle Smith, the leader of the right-wing Wildrose Party is running. The nominated PC candidate is also the associate publisher of the town's only newspaper, the Western Wheel. Barlow confirms he won't step down until the writ is dropped.
- The Western Wheel explains that Barlow is taking a leave of absence from the newspaper "in the near future" but doesn't give specifics.

Feb 01, 2012 01:13 pm | By Bruce Campbell | Okotoks Western Wheel A political newcomer will be taking on the leader of the Wildrose Party...- Brandon Beasley, an Alberta Party candidate in Calgary tweeted a response to another tweet I had sent out about the decision to approve a 450 home subdivision just outside of water-starved Okotoks.
- Smith gives the dignified answer...And then, John Barlow tweets this response using his campaign Twitter account (Barlow4Highwood):
- Again, no response. So I asked the question directly:
- Depending on when the writ is dropped, that means Barlow is heading up the only newspaper in Okotoks during coverage of a campaign in which he is a candidate. Doesn't this seem like a conflict of interest?
