The Restaurant Grade Challenge & Chat

My rapid-data-mapping experiment based on NYC restaurant grades. Deets here: http://thingsivelearned.posterous.com/mapping-restaurant-grades

  1. It started with an idea from @BKpolitics.
  2. @jkeefe --idea: if you can get the data, mapping restaurant grades would be sweet t.co/Kltebs5
  3. @jkeefe Well @sr_spatial took a crack at it last year, based on a post I did here: bit.ly/d2zym7 I think @sr_spatial did it along zip
  4. @jkeefe Some rough drafts from last year here: bit.ly/pxar8G Would be glad to discuss challenges of portraying the data. cc @dancow
  5. Then I set to work
  6. I posted a blog post and a tweet about 1 hour and 45 minutes later, and got ideas for more exploration:

  7. @SR_spatial @dancow @jim_colgan @BKpolitics @zseward Done! (In draft form) Don't see a story there, tho. http://jkef.me/rguszW
  8. @jkeefe Perhaps do it by number of failed grades/grade pendings per 100 eateries?
  9. @jkeefe @dancow Speedy indeed! I think it's also helpful / interesting to account for cuisine type.
  10. @jkeefe also maybe an average grade map? Could be done with just a GPA formula (F=0, A=4, A-=3.7, B+=3.3 etc.)
