Participation-libr559m-week2
Participation is the topic for week 2 of LIBR559m (Social Media for Information Professionals an online course taught by Dean Giustini @ SLAIS - Summer 2011).
With that stirring inspiration, we begin our highlight reel.
The week begins by engaging with the "always on"-ness of social media.
- #LIBR559M @FeliciaChanZ Probabilistic approach: let the updates pass you by, if something is important, it will be rebroadcast.
- #LIBR559M @FeliciaChanZ I hadn't checked the Twitter feed for 12 hours and I felt like I was behind. But I have to sleep.
- @IgregfergI #LIBR559M Twitter & Facebook notifications are drowning my email [How can info pros help users with this complaint?]
- RT @Aspiring_MLIS @FeliciaChanZ #libr559m every thread is overloading [How can info-pros guard against this? How to avoid overload? Ideas?]
- #LIBR559M @feliciachanz But the computer follows me everywhere I go. There is no fresh air anymore!
- @IgregfergI Solution for overload? dump computer for fresh air #libr559m [I'm thinking along the lines of transmedia navigational skills]

Over the weekend, I took a short break and hopped over to Vancouver Island to visit friends, took long walks and enjoyed the natural scenery - it was fresh air and a welcomed change from staring at the computer from morning to night. Unfortunately, I was suffering from a connection withdrawal syndrome.social media: maintenance » lady libriform
One of the things I find interesting about maintaining a social media presence is the constant upkeep it requires. I'm hardly prolific, so I don't have much a problem with it, but the level of engagement it can require can at times be an almost Sisyphean task- like laundry or washing dishes.- #LIBR559M A variation of yesterday's "log off and get some fresh air" thread. t.co/0rigprS
- #LIBR559M @erin_kj_watkins You mean you're not taking a mobile device with you? How will you survive? :)
There was a running discussion of hashtags and their uses through the week.
- @HBomb_Gring No need to learn all hashtags, just the ones of interest. Like you say, they're infinite #ijustmadeahashtag #blahblah #libr559m
