Project Funding - Business Immersion at #StoryCodeOrg - #Transmedia NYC Meetup

From Meetup.com: StoryCode’s Immersions are a “get your hands dirty” series of working sessions meant to educate and share knowledge. This session is geared towards cross-media storytellers and producers who are looking for new approaches to funding and guidance.

  1. Getting started with the overview. Starting with 45 min on Project Funding and then Sparrow Hall will take over. #StoryCodeOrg
  2. You can follow along with Mike Knowlton's slides below.
  3. Obligatory #Instagram and #OMGpop mention by Mike from @Storycodeorg during the introduction. I clocked it at 6 minutes in. #StoryCodeOrg
  4. If you're interested in VC funding and entrepreneurialism, follow @fredwilson's blog, avc.com #storycodeorg
  5. Introducing the "Trough of Sorrow", your project's low point, 'bottom'. I.e not everyone gets bought by Facebook and Zynga. #StoryCodeOrg
  6. Introduced to "Trough of Sorrow" & the startup curve at the #storycodeorg funding immersion: avc.com/a_vc/2012/03/t…
  7. Good idea: @mikeknowlton on being as transparent as possible about yr work so people know EXACTLY what ur doing @storycodeorg #storycodeorg
  8. Sample funding types for storytelling projects: self-funding, VCs, crowdsourcing, grants/labs and branded entertainment. #storycodeorg
  9. Ideas between self-funding and crowd-sourcing: a longer road versus losing a percentage of your funding. #StoryCodeOrg
  10. Differences btwn #IndieGoGo + #Kickstarter: The first takes 9% if goal not met; 4% if met. The other only funds if met, at 5%. #StoryCodeOrg
  11. Shout out to @shericandler & her site as resource for successful story-centric & social marketing campaigns. @storycodeorg #storycodeorg
  12. If you're interested in learning more about crowd-sourced funding, check out sherrichandler.com/tag/crowdfundi… for some great insight. #StoryCodeOrg
  13. Moving on to Investors & VCs. You need a strong elevator pitch & investor deck. Your story is < your value proposition. #StoryCodeOrg
  14. Often immersive storytelling projects develop new technologies for projects - this could be of interest to VC funds. #storycodeorg
  15. Avoid the word "experimental" when pitching VCs for storytelling projects! #storycodeorg
  16. Markets, the next source, are like the speeddating/job fair approach to pitching your project. Ex: Power To The Pixel, BANFF #StoryCodeOrg
  17. Consider applying to Power to the Pixel's "Pixel Market" - the feedback from the experience can be invaluable #storycodeorg
  18. "It's a little bit like a tradeshow, but not that cheesy." - @mikeknowlton puts my fears at rest. I go to enough trade shows. #StoryCodeOrg
  19. Moving on to conferences, such as #adtech and #digitalhollywood. This is where I get a little wary. Beyond #SXSW, why bother? #StoryCodeOrg
