Discussing off-the-record, on-the-record

Rosen, Blodget, Salmon,

  1. I hate the way @BusinessInsider uses anonymity. Anytime, anywhere, any reason. As if it's just as good as any other source null
  2. Sorry, Jay. Sometimes (often) it's the only way to get the real info RT @jayrosen_nyu: I hate the way @BusinessInsider uses anonymity.
  3. I've often explained, but happy to post. Pls give me couple hours. RT @jayrosen_nyu: are your confidential sourcing guidelines online?
  4. In business, anyone who goes on record has agenda. Often only way to get truth is on background--or jobs/careers at risk @jayrosen_nyu
  5. You're trying to tell me that the "information" presented anonymously in http://jr.ly/bub8 was only available off the record, @hblodget?
  6. @hblodget in business, anyone who goes OFF record has an agenda. And those guys are more likely to lie. I trust on-the-record more.
  7. Then you've clearly never worked in business. On record is mostly propaganda MT @felixsalmon: @hblodget in business, I trust on record more
  8. Or its talking your book @hblodget:you've never worked in business:on record is mostly propaganda @felixsalmon:in business I trust on record
  9. Exactly RT @Nouriel: Or its talking your book @hblodget:you've clearly never worked in business:on record is mostly propaganda @felixsalmon
  10. @hblodget @Nouriel everybody I've ever talked to off the record has talked their book. Normally more than they do on the record.
  11. In business, 99.9% of people not allowed to speak publicly. The rest write press releases. Thus, conf. sources critical for real story
  12. My goal is to get the truth. No way to do that by talking only to people authorized to spin RT @jeffjarvis:
  13. In business, anyone who goes on record without specific agenda is soon-to-be-unemployed idiot. So how else get truth? Answer; you don't.
  14. Now, obviously, confidential sources also spin. But talk to right ones and you get ever- closer to truth. Way more than in press releases.
  15. Exactly. RT @Dan_Tamkin: @hblodget Triangulate answers from multiple sources to get truth
  16. @pegobry @felixsalmon @hblodget Since it's all about judgment, are your confidential sourcing guidelines (grounds for judgment...) online?
