Snitch at Occupy Oakland
The term snitch has been used recently at Occupy Oakland to vilify Livestreamers as snitches. It is laced with innuendo and implied threat. Citizen journos are embedded we take real risks. If Violent Tendencies in #occupy are allowed to chill free speech in Occupy zones, the world won't be watching
- RT @OaktownPirate: Response to assertion by @OaktownMike that #livestream of #Occupy events = "snitching". #ows #oo #sunshinebloc #wwecd http://occupypeace.blogspot.com/2012/02/oakland-lawyer-seeks-to-censor.html?m=1
- @jaspergregory If you're not a snitch, that comment should absolutely not make you afraid. Sounds like #YouMightBeASnitch
- I consider @michaelchaley to have issued a threat.
- @Earthgranny @jaspergregory snitch = person who, thru negligence or malice, who help the police find & persecute revolutionaries
- @jaspergregory @Earthgranny snitching puts safety at risk. they get stitches, ya know? #notadvocatinganythingjustsayin
- @jaspergregory may not believe me, but we "hardliners" don't want ANYONE to go to prison. Or snitch, which could be worse for their safety.
- I construed this as a threat as well
- #Occupy livestreamer becomes v. unpopular for filming direct action. Naive? Principled? Radically transparent? Snitch? bit.ly/w8Lekz
- @BellaEiko @OaktownMike clearly calls you & Spencer out as helping OPD when you livestream and being a snitch. Protect yourself tonight #FTP
- @Earthgranny @jaspergregory snitch = person who, thru negligence or malice, who help the police find & persecute revolutionaries
- @roamingradical @jaspergregory Snitch: also used by common criminals who rob, batter, rape, push drugs & generally assault quality of life.
