Josh Harkinson & Occupy Wall Street Eviction

When the police evicted the Occupy Wall Street protestors early in the morning of November 15, Mother Jones staff writer Josh Harkinson managed to duck the barricades and provide one of the only eyewitness accounts of the final moments of the NYPD's eviction. Here is his Twitter report, in order...

  1. I squirmed under a barricade and got this shot of the remains of Zuccotti. I'm at SE corner. twitpic.com/7eeut4
  2. Ok I'm goint to make a dash to get closer. Might get arrested.
  3. I think I am the only reporter in here. I'm by the food carts on Broadway
  4. Which are weirdly still open for business. Cops now the only customers
  5. Almost whole park is already clear except for food tent
  6. Only #OWS supplies left are in a big heap by the red sculpture
  7. A slew of riot cops with batons heading down broadway
  8. Cops have a giant orange bulldozer that they've used to scrape everything up
  9. I just made it all the way in. I am next to the food tent. It's a miracle.
  10. There are, very roughly, 25 ppl in the food tent resisting cops. So far police leaving them alone.
  11. Kid wearing gas mask holding sign: "No law shall abridge the right of the people to peaceably assemble"
  12. Sweaty guy in suit and neon vest ripping off signs: "I've been waiting a long time to do this."
  13. Still big garbage piles around perimeter. Sani guys behin me sweeping and loading dump truck
  14. Occupiers in food tent that I can see are not chained up. Cops just leaving them alone for now.
  15. Arrests seem inevitable. I am afraid of walking around because I could get arrested too.
  16. Cop on bullhorn now: "If you refuse to leave the park you are subject to arrest."
  17. I am very close to food tent. Have a good view of impending arrests
